Headlines
- Catriona Morrsion won gold in the elite women’s race after a fascinating battle with France’s Sandra Levenez. Despite a 15 second penalty for not dismounting early enough coming into T2, Cat was still much stronger over the final 5km and had plenty of time to celebrate her victory.
- Katie Ingram finished sixth, a great achievement considering she had missed several weeks of training due to a bike crash. She has only been in the sport for a year, having been recruited from a mountain running background.
- Sophie Coleman won the U23 title having won the junior title for the previous two years. Lois Rosindale had led for much of the race, but a dropped water bottle during the bike leg caused her to dehydrate during the final run. She faded but still won silver.
- Morrison, Ingram and Coleman combined for team gold for Great Briatin.
- Adam Bowden was the top men’s finisher in 7th. Like Ingram he has been in the sport for just a year and comes from an elite running background. His final 5km run was the fastest of the whole field but the Belgian men had already built a huge lead on the bike and claimed the first three spots.
- Matt Gunby won U23 silver and combined with Bowden and Richard Hobby for team bronze.
