The requirements of acceptance onto the affiliate programme are as follows:

•    A desire to compete on a national and international level
•    A commitment to triathlon and your development within the sport
•    The potential to be competitive on a national and potentially international level

The aims of the affiliate level squad is to encourage and develop a wider base of high level performing athletes, who can compete on a national and international level. Athletes will be supported by accessing UK based training camps at varying times throughout the year.

The decision was made in December 2010 that Paratriathlon will be included as a full programme sport for the 2016 Paralympic games. This decision will ultimately mean over the coming years the standard required to access this performance squad will increase and understanding the level required to win at this level is what drives this programme, and the main emphasis to all athletes is to strive to become the best athlete you can be, and do not compare your-self to current standards, as these will inevitably rise over the coming years.

Each year British Triathlon hosts a Paratriathlon selection process, which involves both a paper form application and a following selection day which comprises of both Physical and verbal assessments.
