Mark hails from a steeplechase background, having been pipped to a place in the England team for the 2006 Commonwealth Games by fellow trigold athlete, Adam Bowden.

He was recruited to triathlon through the 2010 trigold scheme and has been training full time in Loughborough since October 2010. Adam is part of the British Triathlon World Class Development Squad and receives additional funding from Barrie Well and the Well Sports Foundation.

In 2011 Mark took top spot at the British Elite Duathlon Championships in Loughborough beating Todd Leckie into second.
